ABSTRACT

Dance and architecture shared the same concept and disciplines of creativity with a special relationship within them.  Both of the disciplines use and compose space into a medium of creativity.   “Architecture is made by design and by use” (Bill, 1998, p.11).  It simply defines architectural experience generated by the movement of human body over the space and times in order to create the spatial qualities. Align with the interpretation in dance, the person who acts as audience does not as much as physical works but more on experiencing through rhythmic movement presented by performers.  Relationship in between dance and architecture are being determined in such by and for the body of every single individual.

There are many types of consideration in evolving effectiveness of interactive spaces, such as users, contexts, functions and phenomenological aspects which consists of social and environmental conditions.  Responsive environments are the most creative innovation to be integrated into the design to achieve the interactive outcomes.  By the definition, spaces that are able to interact and engage with people who utilize them, pass through them or create by them and even to have in a very short space of time without realizing as it become part of the design.

An advance conceptual design approach often creates a fine line between art and architecture.  Technologies involved, like sensing, computation and display are continuously evolving.  For instance, prototype-based approach is crucial to avoid inconsistent solutions.  Rapid development of technology in almost everything provides a platform for artistic projects to explore and relate the domains mind and body adjusting to the environmental context.

RESEARCH TOPIC / ISSUES

RESPONSIVE ENVIRONMENT :

DANCE & ARCHITECTURE

CREATING BIOGRAPHY OF SPACE BY INTEGRATING DANCE AS MEDIA OF COMMUNICATION

DANCE & ARCHITECTURE are two disciplines of creativity that share a special relationship. Both disciplines define and use space as a medium for creative interpretation.

“ Architecture is made by design and by use ” (Bill, 1998, p.11)

Responsive Environments by definition spaces that interact with people who use them, pass through them or by them. It is often in design and architecture involved technologies to establish an advance conceptual space

Box explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping onto moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera.

Architects and Designers who wish to pursue an advance conceptual agenda often create work that treads a fine line between Art and Architecture. Globally, places such as theme parks, museums, galleries and gardens, historic properties, country parks, and farms, as well as performing art centre have soared in popularity in recent years.

AIM : DESIRE OUTCOME

TO CREATE EXPERIENTIAL AND INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING INTERIOR SPACE WITH BOTH DANCERS AND ARCHITECTS INCORPORATING LIVE AND VIRTUAL SPACE

OBJECTIVES : Set of strategies to achieve the outcome

  • RESEARCH AND STUDIES ON CHARACTERISTICS OF DANCE STYLES IN TERM OF PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGY
  • IDENTIFY THE INTERIOR CONTENT, SUCH AS HARD SPACE AND SOFT SPACE
  • ANALYZE & STUDIES THE TECHNOLOGIES INVOLVED OF SENSING, COMPUTATION AND DISPLAY
  • RESEARCH AND STUDIES ON HOW LIVE AND VIRTUAL SPACE AFFECTS HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY

RATIONALE : The fundamental reasons for this research

  • TO UNDERSTAND AND IDENTIFY SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DANCE AND ARCHITECTURE LEADING TOWARDS CREATIVE INTERPRETATION
  • TO EVOLVE EFFECTIVE RESPONSIVE SYSTEM BY PROMOTING AWARENESS OF MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

RESEARCH QUESTION :

WHAT ARE THE CIRCUMSTANCES & ISSUES ON HAVING THE TOPIC AS A RESEARCH PROJECT PROPOSAL ?

  • Recently, dance performance has been appeared as an art form and trigger much creativity in the industry to pop out with new ideas and sets of showcase. However, it seems to be only a one way communication among performers and audiences. How does new proposal based on "Responsive Environment" will help to bridge the gap in between?
  • In order to present a pleasant showcase to the audience, teamwork in putting up a performance together from stage design, lighting, performers and etc will play a crucial role. Do they practice the process in achieving the pleasant outcome?
  • Technologies involve in mostly all of the current lifestyle activities, ranging from business until personal usage. It augments human and mediate human experience, interaction and perception. Does technologies able to improve the energy performance as well as interior content and how does it help?
